Instead of NDaD...
OK, so I know I have a half-finished new-dress-a-day dress sitting in my sewing box- which I'll finish, I promise!- but here's what I've been working on instead:

Sneak Peek
Ah, the eighties. A time of economic prosperity, rad clothes and shoulder pads. Remember the movie, Working Girl? I think this may have been one of her outfits from the film. Classic eighties: polka dots, shoulder pads, big gold buttons and elbow-length, puckered sleeves. "Workin' 9-5 what a way to make a living..."

The hardest part about this make-over (or, under in this case) was the final design. Did I want to simply shorten the sleeves to bring them into the 2010's? Sleeveless? Shorter skirt? You'll see the finished product, and final answer to the questions above, in my next post (aka "when I actually finish the thing")
But first, a sneak peek:
The sleeves were the second thing to go- the shoulder pads being the first. Anyone who knows me is cracking up about the idea of me in shoulder pads...for those of you who don't know me, I'll say this: I was once stopped in the grocery store by a stranger who said, "Are you a swimmer?" "No," I said, while giving him a funny look. "Oh," he stumbled. "I was just wondering because of your shoulders." I gave him "the monkey eye" and walked away. Now, back to the dress...
The dress was a few sizes big, so the next thing is to take in the sides.
Goodbye, eighties! See ya, lovely gold buttons!
So, there's the beginning of the dress re-do. Thanks again to my favorite new-dress-a-day-er, Caitlyn, for introducing me to the fun site that I'm copying: http://www.newdressaday.com/. As Nicholas Williams would say, "You're da bestest, Miss Caitlyn!"
